From the Heart
Comments OffA note from MOG:
In my wise old age, (well I’m not old or wise by any means .) I have come to a conclusion. To quote the movie Rudy, “There is a God, and I am not Him”. Although from about the age of 14 until a few years ago I had a little different opinion about who should be in control. Some times it takes a little longer for some to come to that realization.
I think today there are not enough men willing to stand up for what they believe. We saw it in Christ’s day, the people who were following Him and taking care of his needs, the people anointing His head and feet with perfume (John 12:3), and the fist to go to the tomb on the third day to anoint His body (Matthew 28:1) Happened to be women.
More and more today we see the women becoming a bigger part of running the church. I’m not saying that is bad….. Well I guess it is! The men should be stepping up to run the church, heading up the groups, the food drives, bible studies, and just the over all structure of our Fathers house. (not saying that ladies can’t or shouldn’t).There is plenty to do that women are an unreplaceable asset. But it is the men who should be first in line when it comes to getting things rolling. God created women to be our helpers (Gen 2:18). But He commanded us(men) to be the head of the household and Churches (Ephe 5) Just as we are accountable to Christ
Today in society we men have so much going on, (not that that is any excuse) we work jobs up to 60 hours a week (if not more), then we come home and have a list a mile long of honey do’s. If and when we go to church on Sunday, it is because our wives are nagging at us to go, and some Sundays there is the conflict before.
When we get to church we come in, sit down, stand up, say amen, and them its home to watch the game.
Where is the involvement, commitment, Passion? We have these things when it comes to our job, our team in sports, or our hobby. Where are these things when it comes to our faith?
If we put as much time into our faith, and family, I think this would be a different world today. Now I know that we have to see the “birth pangs” before Christ’s return, but personally I would like to be able to give a better account of my life and the direction I took my family and church when that day comes.
Now is the time for men, True men of God to stand up, take the lead and help prepare the way of the Lord. That means getting off the couch, stop the excuses, or waiting for someone else to do it.
Like I said before, men are to be the leaders of our family. We can’t do it by ignoring the facts. Our wives want to know they are being cared for and lead, our children need that time with us, not only to throw the ball, but the guidance of the “father figure”. We shouldn’t be surprised when things like “Myspace .com” and gangs are taking our children from us, and quite frankly putting them in harms way. They aren’t looking to get in trouble but to have the reassurance from someone, anyone is what they truly want.
When was the last time you took the time to tell your wife you love her, tell your kids you’re proud of them? If you don’t know, you better go do it before someone or something else make s them feel good about themselves. No matter what the entity.
Men, I believe there are a few things that we need to do for ourselves in order to lead our family and church to new heights.
1) Get your life right with Christ. If you have never done that, it’s high time.
(See the salvation page)
2) Get in to God’s Word everyday!!! For starters there are 31 proverbs in the Bible. No coincidence that there are usually 31 days in a month,(one for each day) there are also plenty of resources out there too to give you a daily devotional.
3) Get to church, get involved with a men’s group (1 John1:7) we have got to stay involved with other men of God and be held accountable to one another. We all fail at times but when you have a friend or group of men that go through the same things you do, it’s easy to help each other when times get tough.
4) Make a stand, even when you may get laughed at. Criticized, or hear that whine of family wondering why you want things that way. We are held accountable for our household. Do you want to answer for some of the things that go on, or have gone on?
5) Train your children in the ways of the Lord; Give them the Gift of Eternal life like you have received.
I want this to encourage you all to take that step and be a Man of God, and the men God wants you and us to be today.
I recommend the “Everyman” series for some good reading and guidance.
